Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? No

Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? No
Joomla! version: (unknown)
PHP version: (unknown)
MySQL version: (unknown)
Host: (optional, but it helps us help you)
Akeeba Backup version: (unknown)

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue.

Description of my issue:

I am ready to go live with a Joomla 1.7 installation. I have been working on it in a directory mysite.com/jupgrade, referenced through a subdomain j17.mysite.com. This morning I took a full backup of j17.mysite.com (as well as a full backup of mysite.com). I wanted to restore the j17 site to a different directory, mysite.com/dev, subdomain=dev.mysite.com.

I tried the Site Transfer Wizard, which appeared to work correctly, and also tried running the latest version of kickstart.php on dev.mysite.com (with the fresh backup of the j17 site loaded in the home directory. This also appeared to work correctly.

However, after completing the Site Migration Wizard AND after retrying with kickstart directly, the front end appeared to work properly (did not run many tests, but it looked good). However when trying to login to the back end a hard PHP error was thrown:
Call to a member function login() on a non-object in
/home1/fearrin1/public_html/dev/administrator/components/com_login/admin.login.php on line 64

I have used kickstart in the past to restore a working Joomla 1.5 site to the dev site, and it worked perfectly.

Any ideas? I can not proceed with my upgrade until this is solved.

Thanks.

This sounds like some plugins were not transferred during the backup/restoration process. Do you get any warnings while backing up? Is it possible to ZIP and attach your backup log file to your next post so that I can take a look?

I was going to do that but could not find the log file(s). Where is it? No warnings while backup was taking place - I watched it. Are there logs by kickstart? That went without errors as well.

Oh, correction!!! I just noticed you said this is a Joomla! 1.7 site, but the file you mention only exists in Joomla! 1.5. I know what's wrong.

Please remove all files from your dev site, then perform the restoration again. If you try to restore a Joomla! 1.7 site on top of a Joomla! 1.5 site, all hell breaks loose; it's not a bug, it's how Joomla! is supposed to work.

Thanks. Will try again and let you know.

That's MUCH better. The only glitch I saw was after editing and saving an article, the "saved" notification bar was overwritten with something. See attached.

I should mention that before I ran kickstart again, I had deleted all files and directories from /dev. I did NOT, however, clear the old database before rerunning. Could that be the problem?

OK, that's much better. The problem you have is a CSS issue. Try clearing your browser's cache. It worked for me when I had the same problem as you :)

That did it.

Thanks for your quick attention to my problem. I hope you have a great vacation!
