Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? Weren't any
Have I searched the forum before posting? cronjob run by url - possible?
Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? All
Joomla! version: 1.7.1
PHP version: 3.1.3
MySQL version: 5.1.50
Host: Fasthosts
Akeeba Backup version: 3.3.4

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue.

Description of my issue:
I am on a shared server and have no direct cron access. I can't get to the Linux underneath. I'm sure I saw mentioned somewhere that you could use webcron.org to run scripts via URL. I cannot see how this is possible due to the redirect quirk.
I looked at the above posting and you said it wasn't possible to run by URL. This is a crazy situation.
I have been using the lazy plugin and that works, sort of. As you know it is a bit cranky and last night gave me three backups.

Please can you come up with a way that URL cron providers can run a script that calls Akeeba Backup in such a way as not to burden the caller with thousands of redirects?

Thank you,
Susi

Hi!

Since August, it is perfectly possible to use webcron.org to have automated backups using the front-end backup URLs. The team at webcron.org was very positive to making the necessary changes on their service and they have already implemented them. That's why I added the note about webcron.org in the Automaticng Your Backups documentation page. All you have to do is to create a new CRON job there with a URL like:
http://www.yoursite.com/index.php?option=com_akeeba&view=backup&key=YourSecretKey&profile=profile_id
and that's about it! Just make sure you set up your Webcron CRON job time limit to be at least 10% more than the time it takes for Akeeba Backup to backup your site. Don't know how much is that? No problem! Just take a regular backup from your site's back-end, then go to Administer Backup Files page and take a look at the Duration column.

I know all about the problems with the Lazy Scheduling plugin. That's why it was deprecated since Akeeba Backup 3.2.5 and discontinued in Akeeba Backup 3.3.a1 and later versions.
