Description of my issue:

Is there an issue with the new core 3.3.5 I used the update in Joomla to find the update, but then I got a large number of "unable to delete" messages.

Sorry, a long hard day. The erros were all related to other languages and the Control Panel now shows 3.3.5/

But no "install successful" message was shown after the install.

Hi!

Akeeba Engine (the backup engine used by Akeeba Backup) had been refactored in Akeeba Backup 3.3.5. This means that some files are no longer necessary, whereas some others were moved to a different path. During installation, we try to clean up the unused files. Sometimes, this is not possible due to permissions issues. I recommend enabling Joomla!'s FTP options in the Global Configuration and retrying installing Akeeba Backup 3.3.5, without uninstalling first (or you will lose your settings). This should remove all of the unnecessary files.
