Hi!

The Site Transfer Wizard should be on the same place when installing Akeeba Backup Professional 3.3.5. However, there is a bug in Joomla! 1.5's extension installer. When you upgrade a component, Joomla! sometimes "forgets" to copy the files which were not present in the previous version of the component. This includes the Site Transfer Wizard files, as they were moved to a new location in version 3.3.5. This bug seems to have been fixed in Joomla! 1.7, though.

There is a simple workaround. Download the latest version's ZIP installer from https://www.akeebabackup.com/latest and save it to your disk. Go to Extensions, Install/Uninstall, click on Browse, select the ZIP file you just downloaded, click on Upload and Install. IMPORTANT: DO NOT uninstall the component before re-installing it; doing so will lose all of your settings. After doing that, Joomla! should have now copied all of the files and you can use the Site Transfer Wizard.

Sorry to say this has NOT been fixed in Joomla 1.7 :-(

On my 1.7.2 install, I was missing both the wizard and the "Include Database" options after the first upgrade/install. Luckily, I checked here and the re-upload fix worked :-)

Though this isn't an AKB bug, I'm wondering now if any of my other component install/upgrades are also incomplete. You wouldn't know, if you didn't know what you *should* be seeing!

Nicholas ... when you have a spare moment (haha) ... could you please rewrite Joomla for us from scratch? LOL!

I have a hunch regarding what's going on, but I haven't been able to reproduce it at will. It looks as if calling JInstaller::upgrade() when both the old and new version of the component have the same version number causes it to freak out, refreshing files in existing directories and skipping files in directories which didn't use to exist. This means that the problem only manifests when someone upgrades from the same version of Core to the same version of Pro. I am not aware of any other component doing the same thing, so this problem might very well be isolated to my software :(

I'll keep an eye on things when I upgrade my next few sites. I did one after my previous post and it went fine. I'll make a note of existing/previous versions prior to upgrading to see if I can spot a pattern. Watch this space!

I don't think it's server related, as all my Joomla sites are on the same host and usually have the same permissions setup.

I tested the "include databases" function as well ... *so useful* :-)

You are right, it is not server-related. At one point I was able to reproduce it on my main testing server. I couldn't reproduce it again ever since :s Let me know if you find something!

I ripped through most of my sites, installing the new (pro) versions. This is what I found:

Joomla 1.7.2
============
Updating 3.3.4 to 3.3.6 (Pro) failed 4 times (never worked)
Updating 3.3.5 to 3.3.6 (Pro) OK

Joomla 1.5.14 and 1.5.20
=========================
New installs - 3.3.6 Both OK

By "failed" I mean to say the "include" modules didn't get set up ... installing a 2nd time always fixed it.

Not sure whether this helps you much - or tells you anything you didn't already know ;-) ... but the fact that I could reproduce the 3.3.4 - 3.3.6 "bug" four times must be irritating for you, LOL!

Best of luck!!

Actually, that helps a lot! First, it confirms my hunch that newly added directories cause the problem. Second, that give me an idea on how to reproduce that so that I can track it down. Thank you!
