Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Have I searched the forum before posting? Yes
Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Joomla! version: 1.5.8
PHP version: 5.2.5
MySQL version: 5.0.92
Host: (SiteGround)
Akeeba Backup version: 3.3.4 (2011-09-12)

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. (NOT SURE WHERE TO FIND THIS....)

I have created for a company a Joomla website and placed it on Hostmonster.com in a subfolder on my hosting account. I used Akeeba to back it up. I have taken the ZIP backup and uploaded it to a SiteGround host account. I have extracted it (which took forever .. in fact, I had to close the window to stop it.) When I go to the new site I receive a "404 Not Found" error screen.

Can you help me in determining the problem?

Thank you so much!
Mike

You manually stopped the extraction process by closing the window and now you're getting 404 errors? I think I see the problem. :-D

How long is "forever"? What were you using to extract the archive, what version? What type of archive? Encrypted archives, for example, do take a long tome to extract.

When are you getting the 404 error? Front end or back end or both? Are you using SEF? How is it set up, with .htaccess and rewrite? Is your LiveSite setting correct for the subfolder that the site is installed in? Is RewriteBase correct?

Dale,

I figured out the problem ... The 404 was caused by the fact that when you went to the site and were moved to the installation directory, it was looking for a file that did not exist. I changed the file type to .php and up it took me to the screen where I could begin the process to install the site.

Yikes .. it took me 3 hours to figure this out ..

Mike,

I'm not clear on exactly what was missing, but as long as you got it working, that's OK.
