I normally use Akeeba to create test versions of my sites. Today I went in to do an upgrade. I first installed the newest version. My site had a problem so I wanted to put the backup copy on the server in a different directory while I left the production in place. I than realized I could not use Akeeba basic to load a new copy of my site.

Now I have pro, can I use the image created to build the new copy.

You don't need Akeeba Backup Professional to restore a backup archive. You simply need to use Kickstart as explained in our Quick Start Guide and our Video Tutorials.

If you want to use Akeeba Backup itself to restore the backup archive, it's an overkill. You basically have to upload your backup archive to your backup output directory, go to Akeeba Backup, Administer Backup Files and click on Discover and Import in order to import the archive to the list of archives. Once you do that, you have to go back to the Administer Backup Files page, select the archive and click on Restore. IMHO, that's an overkill if all you want to do is to restore a site :)

I want to load it into a different directory and different database. I tried it like I usually do to move the system. In the old version it told me I was loading to a different location, did I want to clear the saved information. Now it was allowing me to just overlay my database.

If you are restoring to the same domain as the site you backed up from, the dialog doe not pop-up. However, that is IRRELEVANT to the restoration!!!

The only thing that dialog box does is to clear the FORM on the screen. But you can do the same thing yourself! Just click on each field of the database connection information, select its contents and press the backspace key on your keyboard. It's exactly the same thing.

For an explanation of what the rest of the options on that page do and how the restoration works, please do read the documentation.
