Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? No
Have I searched the forum before posting? Yes

Joomla! version: (1.7.5)
PHP version: (5.2.17 )
MySQL version: (5.0.91-log )
Host: (1 and 1 mutualised)
Akeeba Backup version: (Akeeba Backup Professional 3.3.10 (2011-12-04) )

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:

i just bought your component to save my works and my time : at least i spent my night and last day to try to install it properly.
i do not have enough place to put my saves jpa, so i want akeeba to save in parts, and transfer it on an ftp.
akeeba could not send it to an ftp, so i open a drop box account but it does not work.

could i do what i want to ?
(save my jpa on another place than my hosted joomla )

jlp
if i try on another hosted plan : ovh
with enough plan, akkeeba does not acceed to dropbox.
why ?
it works, make the savings but could not send to dropbox or another ftp ...

In the log file you sent me, I can see this log line towards the end:
ERROR |111230 13:26:44|Couldn't write to the archive file; check the output directory permissions and make sure you have enough disk space available.[len=384273 / 1048576]

Basically, this means that you're running out of free disk space. You will first need to buy more disk space (or at least remove old backups) so that the backup completes, otherwise what would Akeeba Backup try to transfer to DropBox? See, the problem is not that Akeeba Backup can't send the archive to remote FTP, it's that it can't complete the backup due to lack of disk space.

Regarding your second message, I can't understand a word out of it. I can't understand if it's the same or a different site, if it's the same or a different host, I have no idea if you get an error message and I don't have a log file to begin with. Asking me to help you with that is like asking me to land a plane in the dark, with no cockpit instruments, on a dark runway, blindfolded and with my hands tied behind my back. You can start by ZIPping and attaching the log file so that at least I can see what is going on.

jlp
ok

i'm getting free space, but that's why i bought pro edition :
because i do not have enough space and wanted the save file to be send to a cloud space (or ftp)

for the second site , wich have enough space, it is on another host, and i send you the log file ...
the backup works fine, like free version, but don't access to dropbox

here is the log

jlp
the log was not attached

brianteeman
Akeeba needs to generate the backup file locally before it can transfer the backup to a remote location like dropbox for permanent storage.

jlp
i try to add another log txt but it does not work
i put it here : http://dl.free.fr/vVJ7PwTD8

Hi,

The link you sent me shows a video advertisement in French? In any case, it's not a log file. In order to attach a log file, please put the .txt log file in a ZIP archive. Do NOT try to attach the .txt file; we have a 2Mo file size limit and most .txt log files are bigger than that. Also do NOT use RAR, 7Z or any other compression format; our site will most likely not accept it (and I'd have a hard time opening them). Please only use a simple ZIP file. That's what I meant with "ZIP and attach your log file" :)

Now, regarding what Brian said, he is right - in principle. There is an Akeeba Backup hidden secret which could allow you to back up your site despite not having enough disk space. Please go to Akeeba Backup's Control Panel and click on the Configuration button. Find the "Data Processing Engine" drop-down and click on the "Configure..." button next to it. Check the "Process each part immediately" box and save the configuration.

This setting will tell Akeeba Backup to try to upload each piece of the backup archive as soon as it is finished. Normally, this allows you to backup a site with very little free space, about 30Mb of free space required when you have 10Mb parts.

If the backup still fails, please do place your new .txt log file in a ZIP file and attach that ZIP file here so that I can examine your log. Thank you!

Your problem is that you have a single part archive which is 82Mb big. DropBox does not support uploading files over 50Mb big. Moreover, using very big archive files or part sizes will probably to timeout errors which will prevent you from successfully uploading your backups to DropBox or any other cloud storage service for that matter.

As I have written in the documentation, you have to set up a part size for split archives which is much smaller, around 20Mb. If you haven't done so already, please do read the documentation on setting up cloud storage here: https://www.akeebabackup.com/documentation/akeeba-backup-documentation/step-by-step-guides.html#how-to-cloud-backup

jlp
thanks a lot for your answer.

i tried to do all as it was writen but it have got the same errors.

so I said it may be due to dropbox. ==>
i tested with an ftp remote server wich works well (akeeba test).

but I have an error message too, but I think I dropped the settings to miminum.

here is the error message :
Invalid username/password for the remote FTP server
Failed to process file /homepages/36/d303166533/htdocs/Xtrem_Online/17/administrator/components/com_akeeba/backup/site-www.xtrem-paint.fr-20111231-074418.jpa
Post-processing interrupted -- no more files will be transferred

the backup is always succesful, that's the sending wich does not work.

here are the logs again and happy new year !!

Hm, the FTP upload does say that it can't connect to the remote host because the username/password is wrong. That's strange...

Can you please try installing the latest dev release, re-configure DropBox or FTP and retry the upload?

- URL to your site's administrator page
- Super Administrator username and password
Please allow me a couple of days; I will be probably not answering any support requests over the next 24-36 hours :)

Thank you for your PM!

Regarding DropBox, you are using the WRONG username or password. I tried using the email and password you had entered in Akeeba Backup to login to dropbox.com and I got the "Invalid username or password" error message. When I supplied my own DropBox email/password to Akeeba Backup, I was able to run a backup and transfer it to DropBox successfully. So, all you have to do to make it work is to supply the correct email and password :)

Regarding FTP, I confirmed that Akeeba Backup is sending the correct username and password to your FTP server. For whatever reason, your FTP server declines the login. This looks like a restriction in the FTP server. I have no idea why. Maybe you should ask your host about it.
