Description of my issue:

I have just installed AdminTools and Akeeba Backup on a Joomla 1.7 site and I tried to insert and save the Download ID but the page just kept reloading and would not save and close.

Best, Tim

Hi Tim,

Happy New Year!

Sorry, this cannot be a bug with Akeeba Backup. The settings page is completely handled by Joomla! itself. All I provide to Joomla! is an XML file which describes the fields, i.e. absolutely no code. However, I will try to help you based on my experience with funky Javascript issues and troubleshooting I've done myself to other people's sites over the years.

Some things to try:
- Are you using a temporary domain, e.g. http://www.example.com/~username to access your site, instead of a regular domain (e.g. www.example.net)? If so, please note that Joomla! will not work properly due to Apache restrictions.
- Sometimes it's sufficient to turn off your firewall or antivirus application. Several of them are known to screw up Javascript on unsuspecting pages, the most notorious piece of junk being AVG Antivirus and its Link Checker feature which, IMHO, should be called "Javascript Destroyer"
- You may want to try using a different browser, on a different computer, with a different Internet connection. Ideally, you should use a browser without any extensions installed. Half of the JS issues I've seen over the years were bad setups, mostly on Windows computers.
- If you're using Firefox 9, I've heard people saying that its Javascript engine is crap and causes all sorts of issues. Some have called it "the new Internet Explorer". In this case, you may want to consider using Chrome. Much faster, much less memory usage, doesn't screw up the web. What else can you ask from a browser?
- If you have any plugins installed on your site, besides the core Joomla! plugins, it would be a good idea to try disabling them. Another good idea is to switch your back-end template to the default one (Bluestork or Hathor) if you are using a third party back-end template.

You are right- I had just installed Akeeba Backup and AdminTools and I thought that it was particular to those components but it was also Saving and Closing system preferences as well.

I tried with Safari on my home computer and it works. There seemed to be some connection issues with my internet at work so that might have been the problem. On Firefox it did work correctly though on my work computer.

Hopefully it was the connection and it will resolve itself next time I try!

All right, now it starts making more sense, doesn't it? :) If it wasn't the Internet connection, the other factor could be the browser setup on the affected computer (your work computer, I guess?). If this happens again, you can try using a different browser and see if that helps.
