Joomla! version: 2.5.6
PHP version: 5.3.10

Akeeba Backup version which took the backup: PRO
Kickstart version used to extract the backup: NONE, manual extract

Description of my issue:

Trying to restore site to same server. Have uploaded extracted files to server, just over 1GB

When I go to domain.com/installation it redirects to domain.com/installation/installation/index.php and the following error shows

Not Found

The requested URL /installation/installation/index.php was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Apache/2.2.22 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.22 OpenSSL/0.9.8e-fips-rhel5 mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 mod_bwlimited/1.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 PHP/5.3.10 Server at www.domain.com Port 80

Have removed the actual domain name

This sounds like GoDaddy hosting and its semi-broken Apache setup to me. Well, you can try accessing http://domain.com/installation/index.php (note: one "installation" in there).

Server is not hosted with GoDaddy

Ive tried the direct link http://domain.com/installation/index.php and it also redirects to http://domain.com/installation/installation/index.php

Note the 2 installation folders in the second link

I have an idea. Try removing or renaming your .htaccess file from the site's root before accessing the installation directory. Kickstart does that automatically, but you're not using it.

Important: browsers cache redirections. Clear your browser's cache and restart your browser before trying my suggestion.
