You have to define content :) Normally, the content of the site is both database records (e.g. articles) and files (e.g. images). If you want to restore database records of any number of tables you have to restore the entire site. This has to do with the way ACLs work in Joomla! and how everything ends up being connected in the #__assets table.

Restoring articles is only possible if you have not deleted articles and categories in the meantime. In this case you can restore only the #__content table manually, following pretty much the steps in the emergency manual restoration. Please bear in mind that if you have deleted any articles or categories you'll end up with something unusable and most likely unfixable.
