Description of my issue:

I am having problemd restoring an old(ish) backup to the latest version of xampp. In the first place there were a large number of PHP errors most saying that 'getinstance() should not be called statically'.

I edited the php.ini file to change the error settings which allowed the restore to run however when I try and access the frontend I get a 404 error stating 'Component not found'.

Is there anyway that I can restore this to the current version of xampp. The site has been hacked and I am trying to recover from the last backup that was done. I want to restore it to my local system and then recover it to the Internet after I update it. I intend migrating it to joomla 2.5.

I seriosuly doubt that Joomla! 1.5 can run on PHP 5.4 due to changes in the language since PHP 5.2 and 5.3. I would recommend setting up a local server with MAMP (Mac OS X) or WAMPServer (Windows). In the latter case install the optional PHP 5.2.11 package. Then switch your local server to PHP 5.2 and retry the restoration.
