Mandatory information about my setup:

Joomla! version: 2.5.8
PHP version: 5.3.1
MySQL version:5.0.88
Host: Networksolutions
Akeeba Backup version which took the backup: 3.7.6
Kickstart version used to extract the backup: 3.6

Description of my issue:
I am trying to restore a backup. I have had to do this on many occasions but this time it doesn't even get past the extraction before giving this message:

AN ERROR OCCURED
Could not open /data/19/2/17/132/2995458/user/3324291/htdocs/log/error.php for writing

I have been working on this for over 24 hours, so the site has been down that long. I really need to get this back up. Can you please help?

Hello Tammy,

The first thing you should try is following the troubleshooting instructions (the live server section on that page).

If that doesn't help, you should also try checking the "Ignore most errors" option in Kickstart. Please note that this MAY cause restoration issues and result to a broken site.

In this unfortunate case, or if you're simply running out of free disk space on your account, just follow the manual extraction method:
- Extract the archive file on your computer using Akeeba eXtract Wizard
- Upload all extracted files to your site using FTP
- Access the restoration script as http://www.example.com/installation/index.php where www.example.com is the domain name of your site
- After the restoration is complete please remember to remove the installation directory

Also note that when you do follow the manual extraction procedure you will not need to run Kickstart and you do not need the backup archive in your site's root.
