I have developped a Joomla site in a deployment folder and want to restore the site on the root folder public_html.

When restoring, I use the FTP method (with kicktemp folder as suggested in the faq document). Checking the ftp connection gives me an o.k. as well as checking the temp directory to be writable.

When actually restoring the site, the restoration process starts, however stops at certain points indicating an error such as:

Could not open /home/xxxx/public_html/administrator/components/com_redirectonlogin/install.script.php for writing.

I never had this on other sites (same provider/hoster) and can't find a solution to this.

Thanks for any hint and input,

Thomas

Hello Thomas,

I think you have a permission issue.
Are you trying to restore your backup on top of your old site? Can you please try to remove all the files from the root folder and run the restoration again?

Hi Davide,

thanks for your input! Yes, I'm installing the backup on top of my old site (the site actually sits in a folder called "deployment". So, you think I should remove this folder as well before the restoration process? Or would there even be an easier way to move the site up to the root folder (o.e. by moving all content and editing the configuration.php file?

If you are not writing anything in the development folder, you can keep it.
However I'd try the simplest solution possible, because most likely you have several permission issues.

ok, so I first try to copy the content of the development folder to the public_html folder and adapt the configuration.php file and will then check/set the permissions with the Admin Tools.

To be honest, I'd prefer you to completely remove any folder and run the restoration process again.
However, your solution could be ok, too.
Let me know if it works or you need further assistance.

Hi Davide,

thanks for your feedback again! I've moved the content of the development to the root folder, changed the settings in the configuration.php file and as far as I can see, everything works fine...

I will check deeper in the permission issue, but as far as I can see, my problem has been solved so far...

Thanks again for your fast support and input - I really appreciate it!

All the best

Thomas
