Created new account with WHM to use for upgrading Joomla 2.5.28 to 3.4.

Front end doesn't seem to be using the template but I'm not too worried about that yet.

What I need to be able to do is log into the back end. No user/password combos work. Just get "Username and password do not match or you do not have an account yet" at the top of the login box. I have tried going into the database and changing a password as well as creating a new admin user and password. I also did this change that was recommended public $cookie_domain = '';
public $cookie_path = '';

I turned on error reporting but nothing shows as an error.

Because this is in a dummy site I have to use the address http://174.121.164.66/~grainh15/ to access the site and http://174.121.164.66/~grainh15/administrator/ to get to the admin panel login. This is reflected in my configuration.php livesite setting as well.

There is no .haccess enabled.

The original site www.grainhandler.com is on the same host as well. I decided to do this instead of in a sub directory because when I used the sub directory method yesterday on another site I had issues with the old site going to the new one. I'm not sure why, but this one is more critical for that not to happen on.

This could be a couple of things:
  1. Joomla! doesn't like temporary directories (a name beginning with a tilde ~). Usually when you move the site to a permanent URL, or a subdomain, then things will straighten out.
  2. The login problem could be an Evil Browser Trick. During the restore, you get a chance to change the Admin password. If you leave the field blank, the original (backed up) password is retained. Behind the scenes, that password field is marked "Do not autofill" so your browser doesn't try to automatically enter a password for you. Some browsers don't respect the don't autofill tag and put a password in anyway. It is pretty easy to miss. That changes the Admin password. It is usually very difficult to figure out what your browser was thinking at the time and what password it may have used.
