After restoration, browsing to the url initiates a download (of index.php).

I'm suspecting this is .htaccess Issue?

billiec
Removed my .htaccess file
Front end of site now loads.

However, I cannot log in as administrator.
I used Admin Tools to setup a ?secretword after the /administrator for login on the original site.
Site is restored to a subdirectory in a different server.
In the restoration, I setup a new pwd for the superuser.

You can disable Admin Tools from outside the administrator area of Joomla! with the instructions found here: https://www.akeebabackup.com/documentation/troubleshooter/atwafissues.html.

In the .htaccess file that you renamed, look for a line that starts out "AddHandler". That is the usual command for changing the version of PHP from within the .htaccess file. You can start the line with a # character to make that line a comment.

Thanks.
I commented out the "Addhandler" line and front end all displaying properly.
I disabled Admin Tools.
Still cannot login.
I looked at the user table in phpmyadmin and the superuser is marked "deprecated" in usertype field. Not sure where to go from here.
I have restored this site as development to migrate to J3.

What happens when you try to log in as administrator? Do you get an error message?

Cleared browser cache (chrome). Same issue.
Tried in Edge. Same issue.

Let's rename the .htaccess file. Can you log in then? The site won't display correctly without .htaccess, I'm only interested in the back end login. If that works, update the cookie and domain paths at the bottom of the .htaccess Maker screen and regenerate your .htaccess file.

renaned .htaccess file
could not login
corrected the cookie domain, and cookie path in configuration.php. Can log in now.

In .htaccess maker screen in admin tools....
"Custom .htaccess rules at the bottom of the file"

I'm not sure of the format of the entry here?

dlb
I'm sorry, I wasn't clear enough. The two fields that you need to update on that screen are "Host name for HTTP requests (without http://)" and "Host name for HTTPS requests (without https://)".

Yes, there was a correction needed there. Regenerated the .htaccess and the site seems to be fine.

THANK YOU!
