When moving to a new server, you must manually create the database and user. The restore script does not have sufficient rights to create a database, only to restore tables and data to an existing database.

To extract the backup archive, use kickstart.php. So you'll use the address www.mysite.com/kickstart.php. Kickstart will prompt you for the name of the backup archive (and give you a drop down list of all archives available in the root of your site). After that, just follow the on screen instructions. Kickstart will extract the archive and hand over control to ANGIE, the restore script, which is embedded in your archive. ANGIE looks very much like the Joomla! installer for a new site. It will prompt you for your database connection settings, etc. The final step is a cleanup step which deletes the backup archive, the installation folder and renames your .htaccess file.

If you have already extracted the archive and you just want to do the restore, visit your site address (i.e. www.mysite.com) and you'll be redirected to the restore script.

If you get a 403 error (not permitted), look for an .htaccess file in the root of your site. Rename it while the restore is in process.

To Dale L. Brackin:

Hello Mr. Brackin: We lost our IT person to an accident and have tried to fix things ourselves. We transfered a site www.liaairport.com and went live, but when I try to make an akeeba backup, it shows a warning. See attached.

I wanted to see if you can do it for us for a fee.

My email is [email protected].

Thank you.

Jose,

You are an Akeeba Backup subscriber, you have already paid for my support services.

This error is an easy one. It is a Joomla! setting that is causing the problem, not Akeeba Backup. On the main Joomla! menu, go to System and Global Configuration. On the Server tab there is a field "Path to Temp Folder" - that's where the problem is. It is pointed to the root of your site. That's bad. Just add /tmp to the end of it. Note that you need a /tmp folder in the root of your site to make this work. You may have to go in with FTP and create it.

If you have any problems or questions, just let me know.

You are using Akeeba Backup Core version. That isn't a problem, but your licence allows you to use the Pro version, which has some additional features available.
