When you are restoring a backup the SMTP parameters which were present at backup time in your site's configuration.php
file will be used, just like any other parameter in configuration.php
which is not or cannot be explicitly modified in the Akeeba Backup Restoration Script's (BRS) user interface. These Joomla Global Configuration settings are applied to your site when you click on the Next button in the Site Setup page. This tells BRS to create a new configuration.php
file, merging your changes –as specified in the user interface– with any options from the configuration.php
file which was detected and read when BRS was initially launched. Should it not be possible to create the updated configuration.php
file, e.g. due to file permissions issues, you are explicitly warned about it in the next and last page of BRS, and given the updated contents of configuration.php so you can apply them yourself.
It sounds like you got to a situation where the updated configuration.php
file cannot be created, but did not notice the message at the very last page of the restoration.
