restoring demands a database, i cannot skip restoring a database anymore, i get a required admin user warning. now i make a dummy db, restore, get error due to databse complexity (our bad, SP, and views etc) and manually delete installation folder and set my own database settings in configuration.php. i 9 out of 10 times have my own database on a different server, so i do not have to restore that, is this new? can this be fixed?

Enter the information to your current database. From the right hand side choose the option to select which tables to restore. Only choose the #__sessions table. Now the restoration script knows how to connect to your database, having only restored the sessions table which isn't all that important.

That said, you only need to go through the restoration script if you're restoring a database and need to reconfigure your site. If you only wanted to replace the files all you need to do is extract the backup archive with Kickstart. Then, instead of clicking the Start the Restoration button just remove the installation folder.
