Hello,

I downloaded the backup file site-luandla.com-20250925-170948utc-eE42X_eoIdPbJlP3.jpa via FTP from my website. The backup was previously created with Akeeba Pro from within the WordPress backend. Then I uploaded both Akeeba Kickstart for WordPress and the backup file into my webspace folder and tried to start the restoration by opening https://luandla.com/kickstart.php in my browser.

However, the backup did not start. Instead, I was redirected to an error page.

Could you please tell me what I did wrong and confirm if it’s even possible to restore a backup created with Akeeba Pro from the backend using Akeeba Kickstart?

 Thank you for your support.

 Best regards,

Dirk

Make sure that the kickstart.php file and your site-luandla.com-20250925-170948utc-eE42X_eoIdPbJlP3.jpa backup archive are in the web root (where WordPress' index.php file is). If you have already confirmed that's the case, please do try renaming your .htaccess file to .htaccess.disabled

Unfortunately, this is not possible.

I downloaded the backup from the luandla.com domain via FTP and completely deleted the target directory because I could no longer access the domain. Then I uploaded the backup file to the target directory and tried to restore the site using Akeeba Kickstart, but it didn’t work.

In the meantime, my hosting provider IONOS restored the site, but only with an older version. I have now placed the Akeeba backup into a new empty target directory, uploaded the Kickstart file there as well, and connected it to a test domain (e.g., www.joomla-test.com/kickstart.php). I plan to use a new database, because the old one is currently used by the IONOS restored site.

I just remembered that my original site used the Ghost Security plugin. This plugin changes the login and admin URLs (e.g., from wp-login.php to ghost-login), and it can also add rewrite rules in .htaccess or user.ini and modify database entries.

You came here asking me for help restoring a site from a backup. All I asked you is to check the two things needed to restore your site from a backup: the actual backup archive, and Kickstart (the latter you can of course download from our site). Based on your convoluted reply, I assume that you no longer have the backup archive. Therefore, there is nothing for me to help you with. You can't restore your site from a backup if you no longer have the backup.

Did you have the backup archive after all? If not for me, please answer this for the confused souls who will find this public ticket and wonder what was the solution.
