I can not get into the backend of my Joomla site to do a restore.  I tried using cpanal backup restore and got "not correct file type message" from the jpa file. What are my options?  My only thought is to erase the site and start again, install Akeeba backup, and then restore.  That scares me as it is beyond my knowledge.

Two sites are in question www.transitioningdoula.com & www.cineffex.biz

Starting from scratch is NEVER an option you should even remotely consider when you have a backup. That's the entire point of having a backup. Panic is never a good advisor, especially when the advice it's giving you is to waste days or weeks to rebuild a site from scratch.

Your problem is a simple case of not having downloaded all of the backup archive files, or having a corrupt file. It should be easy to address.

You can download the backup archive from Google Drive to your computer. Do remember that your backup archive may consist of multiple files with extensions .j01, .j02, ..., .jpa. The .jpa file is the last file of the backup set.

Upload these files along with Kickstart's PHP file to your server using SFTP. If you are using FTP or FTPS you must remember to manually set up your FTP client to use the Binary transfer mode.

That's all you need. You can then run Kickstart and restore your site.

I am attaching a screenshot of what is available on my Google Drive. It is one file per backup. What is not clear is how do I run Kickstart if I can not get to the backend of the site? And I am sorry for my novita, I do not understand "Upload these files along with Kickstart's PHP file to your server using SFTP. If you are using FTP or FTPS you must remember to manually set up your FTP client to use the Binary transfer mode." fully.

Download the file site-www.transitioningdoula.com-20260206-190010est-36MZMoo7-gOFXF-8.jpa from Google Drive to your computer.

Download Kickstart's ZIP file from https://www.akeeba.com/download.html#kickstart

Extract the ZIP file.

You now have a file named kickstart.php

Rename this file to g6camd9q.php

Use SFTP, your hosting control panel's file manager, or FTP in Binary Transfer mode to upload both site-www.transitioningdoula.com-20260206-190010est-36MZMoo7-gOFXF-8.jpa and g6camd9q.php to your site's root. This is usually called public_html, htdocs, or something similar. If unsure, ask your host.

Go to your hosting control panel's file manager.

Enable the display of hidden files / dot-files. If unsure, ask your host.

If there is a file named .htaccess or web.config delete it. If both of these files are present, delete both of them. If neither of these files are present, delete nothing. If unsure, ask your host.

Go to your browser and visit the /g6camd9q.php URL on your site. I assume that your site is called www.transitioningdoula.com. I am not sure because in your ticket description you gave me two sites. If my assumption is correct, visit https://www.transitioningdoula.com/g6camd9q.php

Scroll down and click on the big Start button

Wait for the backup archive to extract

Click on the Run the Installer button. DO NOT close the Kickstart tab yet!

Assuming that the backup was taken on the same site, host, and server as the one you are restoring to you can just click on Next. If, however, you have changed your database connection details or you are restoring to a different site, host, or server you will need to enter your new database connection information in the Restore Database page. If you are not sure what this information is, please ask your host.

Once everything is done, close the tab with the restoration script when it asks you to. You are now back to Kickstart's tab.

Click the big Clean Up button.

Your site is restored.
