I am having severe problems restoring (moving) two Joomla sites to Blue Host. I have used Site Ground to host my sites for over a decade. Their customer support has degraded to where it is non-existent. I have been auditioning two web service providers: Blue Host and Hostinger. I moved the two sites to Hostinger, very few hick-ups.

Moving to Blue Host was a nightmare. The Larger site (>500 Mbyte, 2 back up files) had a problem because Blue Host file manager would not move a file >500 Mbyte. I switched to FTP and that worked. But moving the 2nd site had serious problems. The Akeeba restore did the file restore. Then moving to the 2nd part it got an error. Sadly I did not capture the error. The site was only partially restored. Some parts were missing (notable pictures). When I went to the 1st site, it had been corrupted! It was now the partial restore of the 2nd site and the entire 1st site seemed to be over written. I think the architecture of Blue Host has serious problems with the way they handle the FTP. All of the sites seem to be “mushed” together. They don’t each have a clean address and “public_html”.

I think Blue Host may be fatally flawed and disqualified from hosting multiple Joomla sites. Do you have any experiences with Blue Host?

I've only had bad experiences with BlueHost, but I have to admit that was over a decade ago. Hearing that you have a bad experience with them is certainly not a big surprise to me. What you describe sounds like they probably sold you a single account with "add-on" domains instead of a reseller package where each site would get its own account. If you explained your use case to them and that's what they sold you, that's on them.

My personal recommendation for Joomla! hosting is Rochen, the same host the Joomla project itself uses to host its own sites. I will disclaim this by saying they host our business site for free, but I pay Rochen full market rate for hosting my own sites. I always get fantastic support, regardless of whether it's coming from my own accounts (i.e. they know who I am) or from someone else's account (who's not a "well-known" Joomla person, therefore they will not get any kind of preferential treatment).
